JPO Annual Report 2025 Released

The Japan Patent Office (JPO) has released the “JPO Annual Report 2025” on July 7, 2025.

In this report, the following key points are included.

• In 2024, the number of Patent applications was 306,855, a 3.6% increase compared to the previous year. The number of Design registration applications was 32,065, and Trademark registration applications totaled 158,792.

• Patent applications from China and Korea are on the rise.

• Design registration applications from China surged in 2024.

• FA Pendency and Total Pendency for patent examination were reduced to 9.1 months and 13.0 months, respectively
